Deep Value, this website, the guide, and every email or text we send are general education. None of it is personalized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and nothing here creates an advisor or client relationship. We are not a registered investment adviser, broker, accountant, or law firm.
In plain language
This book is education. It is not personalized financial, tax, insurance, or legal advice, and I am not your financial advisor, accountant, insurance agent, or attorney.
I don't know your situation. I don't know your income, your debts, your health, your family, or your job. So everything here is general. It is the plan that works for most people most of the time, and you are the one who decides whether it fits you.
The stock market can lose money. It can lose a lot of money, and it can stay down for years. Nothing in this book is a guarantee about the market, and past returns do not promise future ones. The only place I use the word guaranteed is about paying off debt, because paying off a card that charges 24% really does save you 24%.
Rules about taxes, retirement accounts, insurance, and student loans change. Contribution limits change every year. Federal loan programs get rewritten. When I say "check the current rules," I mean it. A five minute search on the official government or IRS site beats anything I could print here.
If your situation is complicated, or you are about to make a decision you can't undo, pay a fee-only financial planner for an hour of their time. That is money well spent.
You are responsible for your own decisions. I wrote this to make those decisions easier. That's all it is.
About the numbers
Projections in the guide assume the stock market grows 10% a year on average, which is roughly the long-run average of the S&P 500. That is an assumption for illustration, not a prediction. Real returns vary a lot from year to year and can be negative for long stretches. Examples that describe a person or a situation are made up, and say so.
Historical market figures are quoted from public sources as of the date the guide was written and are not updated in real time.
No guarantees
We make no promise about any result you get from following the guide. Investing involves risk, including the loss of the money you put in. Paying off debt at a stated interest rate saves you that interest; that is the only place we use the word guaranteed.
Third parties
We mention brokerages, banks, and account types as examples. We are not affiliated with them and are not paid by them. Check current rules, limits, and rates with the official source before you act.
Your decisions
You are responsible for your own financial decisions. For anything specific to your situation, talk to a licensed professional, ideally a fee-only planner.
